You've looked at countless homes and finally settled on the perfect one, and the only thing standing between you and the keys is the closing. This is a gathering where you and the seller(s) will sign all of the paperwork necessary to officially transfer the title of the property to your name. Unless you are paying with cash, this is also where you will sign documents finalizing your mortgage.
A closing agent from the title or real estate company typically runs the proceedings and prepares all of the paperwork ahead of time. Buyers and sellers, along with their REALTORS®, usually attend, and it generally takes 30-60 minutes. Be prepared with your drivers' license or some other type of government-issued photo identification. You will also need to plan ahead with a wire transfer of funds or cashier's check for a down payment. Your closing agent should be able to give you the exact amount at least one day prior to the closing.
At the end of the proceedings, you will receive the keys to your new home (or deed to the land) while the seller receives payment for the property. Mission accomplished!
